What size wrenches do i need to remove my fuel injectors?

Sorry guys, I know this is probably an idiotic question, but I was wondering what size wrenches I need to remove my fuel injectors on a '87 2H? I know, I should probably just get a whole set, but I don't have one, and my car is stored a ways away so I can't just go outside and measure it. Thanks.
 
You will need a 27 super deep socket, for the injector body itself, a 19mm for the return line retaining nut and a 17mm wrench for the feed line nut. The upper half body is 24mm should the return nut be seize. be careful to not tear the return line apart, $$$.
 
So after taking them out should I cover up the holes where they go and with what? The truck is stored outside and it's been raining.

I would take rags, and cover the holes. Ensuring nothing falls in. You can stuff them slightly in the holes, but I would be careful not leave any rag in there.

The hood closes right? So rags work in the rain.
 
Yup, the hood closes. Any pointers on how to remove the return line without damaging it?
 
Remove the lines from the injection pump to the injectors first. Don't bend them out of the way! Remove the retaining nuts that hold the return line in place making sure you don't turn the injector or the return line when doing so. When all the retaining nuts are off the return line should come off.
 
im in the process of doing this with my 3b .. just remove and refit (i have two 3b's one with freshly reco'd injectors to go into the other 3b)

from what I could tell it appears the main injector body requires a 24mm spanner or super deep socket.. is this correct in the case of teh 3b?

They both need a 27mm deep socket. The 24mm will dismantle the injectors and you DON'T want to do that.

The order of bolt sizes in you picture are 17mm for the injection tube (nut is up the tube in your picture), 19mm for the overflow pipe, 24mm on the injector (DO NOT REMOVE THIS ONE), and 27mm for the injector body.
 
Don't forget 10mm to remove the clamps on the injection pipes so you don't have to bend the pipes themselves. Also, a 10 or 12?mm to loosen the heater pipe across the injectors so that you can move it out of the way as well. Other than that it's all covered.

Yep.. I haven't undone the 24mm and figured it was the injector internals.. I'll have to wait to finish this until I can get my hands on a 27mm super deep socket..

All I have access to at the moment is a shifter and i can't even get that in there to get a decent grip on it so im not even gonna try..

On the 27mm super deep socket, does it need to be a 6 point or a 12 point?
 
Ok, sorry again, I'm confused. . . . so what size drive would a
super deep socket be? I'm assuming that it is not the same thing as a regular 27 mm deep socket?
 
A deep socket is the same drive as any other. My 27mm is a 1/2" drive. I'd get a 6 point 'cause you get better grip on the injector.
 
I did this job over the weekend after refering to this thread. I found a set of Metric Crowfoot Wrenches from Harbor Freight to be invaluable for this job:

Add they're only $6 right now.

Finding the 27mm deep socket was a bit tougher. Sears has them online at the best price:

All the white smoke issues went away with the swap. I bought the injectors on eBay from a seller on Australia.
