The motor in my used mill drill started smoking, accompanied by banging and small flames. I may have lucked out. The run capacitor is on the right side. The mill is wired for 220v. The motor is 2hp, 1740 rpm. There's no frame number on the motor.

I'm trying to answer 2 questions:
1. The info tag on the run capacitor is destroyed. How do I know what size run capacitor to buy as a replacement?
2. The label on the start capacitor says 120v. Is this an issue since I'm running 220v?

I've run the mill about 2 hours since I bought it. I don't know its history.

1) Multiply the full load amps by 2,650.

2) Divide this number by the supply voltage.

3) The answer will be the mfd of the cap you need.

The voltage rating must be the same or grater. Your motor data plate should provide the FLA

My best answer....

What mill/drill is it? I have one in the garage and know where another is. If yours is the same as mine I can get the info off my machine.

I found the answer by going to Rockler & getting one of the nice employees to check the same model they have on display. It’s a 30 mfd 300v.

So would the formula yield the same value?
