Hi everyone, new to the 40 crowd, recently picked up my first 40 and had some questions on parts so I know what I can upgrade to, convert to and swap out since it came with a parts 40 too.
1970 FJ40, around 6" of lift, body lift and looks like an old POS 4" rancho kit with P/S.
So my questions are what kind of power steering kit is this? saginaw, mini truck? some other aftermarket?
And what brake booster/master cylinder is this? From what I've seen its not the 1970 stock one. Thanks for any info!

3-bolt saginaw with a saginaw pump [strike]mounted where the alternator should be[/strike].

Brakes look like Toyota. Firewall may have been modified to get the booster to fit up against it like that, but if your '70 is from '7/'70 or later it may be stock like that. Not sure about early ones like that.

If you ever decide to replace that steering gear box you might look into cleaning up that frame horn and installing a four-bolt box. If it works, it's probably fine how it is.

The alternator did not move to the right side of the engine bay until 1975 with the 2F engine change.

:meh:

Thanks a ton, I did notice the pump did appear to be on the wrong side???? It's a 6/70 model, and I do plan on swapping put the steering colum very soon so I will look into cleaning all that up

Sorry, reason I wanted to know about the booster was I plan on swapping the'81 axles for the disk brakes

X2 master cylinder looks stock to me

it can be used with disks in the front - you just need to remove the residual valve for that circuit

whats the residual valve?

it sits in the outlet from the master cylinder to the front brake line - a little black thing

The master cylimder is correct for a 7 of '70 or later build date. 1970 had a mid-year transition from single to dual master cylinder

Thanks for the info guys. After researching for a couple of days and looking through the tech links I can't really find what I am looking for.

I am planning on swapping the entire '81 drive train into the '71 from bell housing to axles. Trying to plan in advance so she will have as little down time as possible. And dont want to keep running back and forth to the parts store.

I have been told that the brake lines will not have the same connection? If so what size would I need to purchase? Should I run all new brake lines?

Check on removing the residual valve for the fronts.

What about ebrake? not that the current drum on drive shaft is working.

Any other valuable info needed? Thanks.

Looks lik the master that came on my 1974 fj40. And Saginaw power steering"
