Not a 40 restoration shop yet...but It is a "New" 40 restoration/rebuild.

40x80 shop. 10' door. The front 1/4 is walled off, heated, semi-insulated and I have a wall unit for the summer hot months. Enough to get 1 vehicle in on this side with windows to work on, use the hoist and all workbenches. It's about a 15x20 space. The rest is unheated. It still needs a lot up tidying up and lots to do on it, but worked quite well on the rebuild. Plenty of room for all sorts of projects...or crap, which may be the same thing.

That does look "cramped." That is almost the same size as I've been thinking and the steel structure basically the same. Maybe I need to add another 15' to the length and another 6' to the breadth. Are your walls 12'. I've got a lot of stuff I want to do in it and keep in it.

If you were asking about my wall, it's 14 feet at the side. I don't recall at the peak.

This is a 28’ X 40’ pole barn. Plenty of room for what I do but I didn’t think far enough into the future twenty years ago when I built it. I don’t have enough headroom for a lift unless I modify the roof framing. All good though, I have done four different vehicles in here. The 69FJ40 takes up more room than any of them.

Mine is a hodgepodge. 3 car 28x40 with a 28x14 dedicated area in the center with a large steel weld/breakdown table on one side with a low ceiling.

I recently added a 20x28 addition for a lift.

I like the segmented shop for climate control. I can close off the passageway between them if one needs to be open so I don’t lose heat or cool in the other side. Also if you are welding or painting you cont have to worry about the trucks in the other area.

Both are heavily insulated so my window units keep them cool in the hot ass Mississippi summer

Definitely put water inside. I use my sink a ton.

Awesome setup. How high did you make the addition to accommodate lift?

I'm just finishing mine up... there's more info in my FZJ45 build thread...

It's a 35x50, 16' walls, stucco siding. I need to finish wiring the interior, insulate, and drywall, but the outside is done and the shop is usable!

That crew did some awesome flatwork. Your new shop may win the #1 shop award on MUD.

Mine is very far from the optimal workshop, but this is what I have. One garage tent outside (worked as a paint booth too) and one storage room in cellar below the house. Everywhere the working space is very much limited. The rest is done outside in fresh air. :)

Could you give some specifics on the shelter? Manufacturer, dimensions> It looks like you have some type of floor.

My last shop served the purpose well but was too small for more than 2 vehicles. The new one will house much more. Still a bit to do but coming along nicely. 42 x 30 with 12 x 9 doors.

I think I’ve determine based on the spot in my yard I’d ever want to put a second garage is that something like 32x30ish - anything larger I’d have to move the well or violate an easement. Even so, that would be a HUGE improvement over the 21x21 garage I’ve got currently. I’ve got a 14x20 shed on order that will get the mower and a bunch of other crap out of the current space, which I’m very much looking forward to.

I’m glad I learned some lessons on the shed first. Digging the pad into the hill by hand was a stupid idea. 22,000lbs of wall block, 17,000lbs of gravel, and god knows how much dirt moved with a shovel and a wheelbarrow. Never again.

All that digging by hand keeps you young!
