Didn't think much of it when I first got it, as it looked intentional, but the more I troubleshoot my vehicle the more I want to check every box. I bought this rotor new like two months ago. I've seen uncoated rotor tips and fully coated rotor tips, but never one that is partially coated like mine...and in different directions depending on side.

1. Why is this abrasive coating (feels like stone) on the tip front, anyway?
2. Could it cause problems only being partially covering and do we think this was intentional?

TIA!

Coating is normal but yours appears to be half chipped off. It's a conductive coating/to reduce spark scatter/RFI suppression and prevent erosion. The rotor will work without it but it will probably wear faster.

Just in case anyone wants to add the patent to their collection...
