It measures about 1-1/2” in each dimension. It says Ruger on it so seems gun-related. I have no idea what it is or even how I came to have it.

Can you tell me what this is?

It's mostly plastic but also has metal parts. I was thinking a gunsmith's tool, but maybe it is an actual gun part, and not a tool at all?

This thing had me properly puzzled. Right you are. A magazine. I thought it was a tool of some type.

Even more puzzling is how the heck I ended up with it in my possession. I have no guns that this would fit. Not even close.

those things are a surprisingly good design actually, very reliable IME, even though they look rather different from what most people think of as a mag. And the original rifle is very sweet.
(Btw, I assumed it is the original 22 cal, but could possibly be a different caliber, I don't know what they came up with recently...)

Wow, that picture took me back. I bought a 10/22 Sporter brand new in 1982, for plinking. Yup, that's the standard magazine that comes with it. Great long gun, never jams. Don't have it anymore, sold it to a friend many years ago.

Are people still modding them to the hilt for metallic silhouette and the like?

(I hope no mod sees this thread here in Tools, these guys can be soooo annoying.... :) )

I posted it in this section, thinking this gizmo was a tool of some type. I'll delete this thread.

nah, just move it to hunting etc, we gotta teach them young ones a thing or 2 about classics...
Plus there'll be stories about how great the 10/22s are and before too long you'll realize you need one to go with the mag. Bonus!
