I just picked this truck up today and there seems to be a factory rear tank inside the passenger rear corner wheel well with a shield around it. I’ve had a lot of FJ40’s since I was younger and never seen a tank like this. It looks factory bc it has a shield and factory mounting bolts. Just curious if anyone else know what it is. The tank is around the size of a gallon of water.

Is that the evap tank?
You didn't mention year...

My ‘70 had the same. It is emissions related. Vapor canister I believe.

Seems these were on some 70 and 71 models and on all 72s. Had a 71 I parted that had one. Dumped the tank and kept the skid plate. Picked up three more over the years. Idea is to use them to keep dirt our of the rear corners.

Always wondered why there were so many holes in that corner.
