So have tore down my engine to long block and found this random piece, a small piece of spring steel that came off of......no idea. The answer may present itself when I go put everything back on my new long block but I am not counting on that!

Ive rebuilt my engine and I cant think of where that might of come from. If its not stated in the FSM then you should be ok
That looks like a tension spring for a air pump vane. I can’t picture it working it’s way out of a grenaded air pump though.

no air pump for quite a few months now........but you never know, could have shaken loose from somewhere, could have gotten caught on the left side mount arm

Did you find it in your oil pan? I found several bits from a previously to me failed fuel pump arm in my oil pan.

found it on the plywood underneath the hoisted engine, I will take a look at the fuel pump 'cause i did remove oil pan.....
Looks like the Air Pump vane springs to me...
