What is the correct operating temperature?

does the correct operating temperature of a diesel engine, equal the thermostat opening temperature?
I would imagine so and it would only be a few degrees difference anyway.
Different thermos open at between 88-92 (I think) depending on the climate.
Simon, I used to block off the rad in the winter with cardboard to keep the temps up. The Canadian BJ60's and others had a radiator blind from the factory (mine was removed so I could get the A/C to fit).
diesels run inheriantly colder than a gasser and a winter wind block is a good idea.
the thermostate for CDM models is 88C and that is what these engines run at, as Rosco says + or - a bit...

what i do is run 2 pieces of cardboard just over half the width of the rad opening. this way i could block off the whole rad if i wanted or i could slide one piece over the other for an opening up to 1/2 the rad...

yep using the radiator blind. i now see the advantage of the webasto/espar heating systems for the colder parts of Canada, to bring those diesels upto operating temp.

Its proven to be kinder to your engine also. All that expansion from those low temps to operating temp every day must cause a lot of wear.
