Hi All:

I just purchased a 1993 Land Cruiser. I'm new to this and see that, well I guess that it's a FJ-80 or a FZJ-80.

How will I know for sure?

Thanks
Bill

Bill,
If it really is a 93, it is an FZJ80. The vin should start with JT3DJ81----,and the 10th digit should be a "P". If the 10th digit is other han a "P", post it and I will tell you the year.

Regards, Dan

Bill,
And with that FZJ80 you have the 24 valve 4.5 liter vs. the 4.0 12 valve motor in the previous years.

Easiest way to tell if you have the 3fe vs the 1FZ-FE is .....

if you can only top out at 45 mph, have to drop a quarter in it to leave the driveway, suddenly need viagra, feel the need to kick your truck and spit on it once in a while - then you have the 3fe.

If you can hum down the highway, pass ricers going up hill with your oversized swampers on while pulling a trailer, drinking diet cokes and eating - then you have the 1FZ-FE with blower hence the FZJ80 :D

I'm a little biased! :flipoff2:

Welcome to cruiserhood.

Junk,
You are just tooooooo funny!

if it takes you 4-5 hours to reset your valves then you must have the 1fze like junk there. if it is still "old school" technology and still easy to work on and does not eat through head gaskets you are indeed lucky and have a 3fe.
Just a little pissing mathc for ya, welcome to the fold.
Dave
for the record 92 fj80, ome on 33"s

Remember, The 3F's have fewer things to worry about............. ::)

Hey,
I had my 3FE in my 62 doing 65 on the highway last week.
Yo Gumby, the only way your 62 would be doing 65 is if you dropped it off a bridge :flipoff2:  :D

Guess that would have been better in the vacation thread :flipoff2: :D

JT3HJ85J7V0166107 Can anyone tell me more about this? It's a 97 with 220k miles.
This is an 8 year old thread, about something different. If you want more help with a rig you are looking at, I would recommend posting a new thread, with more details about what kind of informaiton you are looking for.

Being that it is a 97, it is an FZJ80. You can see what some of the year to year differences are, on the Slee Offroad website in the tech section, under 80 series newbie (or something like that). There are more links to information like that, here on the 80 series forum FAQ. The faq is a sticky thread, towards the top of the 80 series forum.

No, original post (back in '03) was a '93 model. Look back to post #12, he asked about a '97 model.

It's Frankenthread, back from the dead.
