After probably the longest knuckle rebuild in mud history I finally managed to get time to button it up and get it out for a test drive. There are a few minor things that I need to finish up but it's probably going to be an ongoing thing for the next few weeks.

Unless fishing gets in the way.

For a fraction of a second, I thought your truck was for sale :) Because of the sign in the back lol

Every time I see one of these ragtops I get the urge to make one.

Step 1) Industrial sewing machine…

2) Practice on smaller projects…

3) Find enough time… still working on that.

I figure by the time I have the rockers, windshield frame, bib, and 1/4s done, I’ll know the new machine like the back of my hand. It works well and I’ve just got a couple things to fine tune on it before moving on to bigger projects.

Myself and two buds took the '63 on a 600-mile round trip to Death Valley via the Lippincott Pass over the last 3 days.
It has to be one of the tougher trails in Death Valley but the FJ40 just motored up and over every obstacle in it's way.
I will say @Downey's skid plate saw some action! The only mechanical breakage was the now-intermittent fuel gauge. :(

So far most of the fixes and improvements I've done to this oldie have enhanced its driveability and durability.
The OME shocks did great; springs will be next! I'll probably get the OME but I'm open to suggestions.

If you haven't been there, Death Valley belongs on everyone's bucket list. (Right, Mark?)
I've been 4-wheeling there since the 70's and have barely scratched the surface.

I wasn't brave enough to climb out and take any pictures on the pass but these are at Ubehebe Crater about 30 miles away.

Yeah, we got a lot of 'nice rig's! And yeah, we spent a fortune on gas!

It’s too bad you’re on the wrong coast ;)

I’d like to get my hands on a walking foot machine… the one I have is a great machine for many things but it has its limits.

Mounted up the 40 cal. fish stick holder for the season.

No pics, but I added a wireless remote to the winch. It’s a economy no-brand unit, but I was able to add it without disabling the wired remote, so there’s a backup if the import electronics fail. It’s pretty slick.

Did they restore any of the parts or just reweb?

Just reweb. Since it's a 1973, the belts saw no use for the first 20 years ;), sat unused (storage then restoration) for the next 27 years, so the guts were pristine, except for a fair amount of dust. They did clean them out, and now I hear the 'ratcheting' sound as the belt is extended.

another PIPE Dream for a EARLY 2F
