What about an SM465 instead of the NV4500. I realize it's an older, less refined unit. Is it shorter than the NV? Is the H55F strong enough to mate to a Cheby V8?

Just drive it for a bit and have fun.

Then do what Shawn tells you to do.

 you sir are trouble! I tend to over complicate my builds and go over big. I'm trying not to do that with any advice... and in the end Juane is the one with the :wrench: in his hand. I prefer he doesn't throw it at me:D

Come one, come all, I welcome all comments and advice.
I have a tabula rasa, a blank slate, a clean piece of paper...

The engine and transmission out of that suburban would make a good swap. Duramax the Suburban for the ultimate tow rig and your set.

1970.
Body is in great shape.
Got some sort of aftermarket springs.
Disk brakes all around.
Hack job power steering.
Stock axles.
Really nice custom roll bar.
And a great big void between the grill and rear diff.
But that's perfect 'cause I've got a 5.7 first gen Vortec fresh and ready sitting in the garage.

Plan is to build a highwayable expedition rig. Father-daughter project with 13 year old Anya.

I'll have lots (LOTS) of questions. But I know I'm in good hands.

Feels good to be back in the fold.

I'd fix the steering, install your engine, install a set of OME springs and call it done. Enjoy driving it around this summer with the family :D

Thanks for the advice, but....

Does this mean progress?

A little. Just a little.

You don't mess around, do you.

I'm starting to face the dreaded P.O. curse.

Hack job shackle reverse - the rear spring perches are not only misaligned but are located in different positions on the frame longitudinally. WTF?

Where are these? Front or rear spring?

1st- are those unsupported on the inside?
2nd- yes terrible alignment, were the bushings pretty shot?
3rd- is that Anya? holy crap we haven't seen your girls in a long time.

I have some stock shackle brackets you can have if you need them. my fj40, I went through the frame with longer shackles for more flex. Brock's we used stock brackets and slightly longer shackle.

Jon, yes, front springs.
Through the frame, Shawn? That sounds like a cool solution, but I'd be interested in your brackets to keep my options open. The bushing were okay - replacement polys, but the pins were twisted relative to each other. No surprise.
Yep, Anya! I've been enjoying your Project 16 photos of Brock.

My Project 16 Kid

Well, more like 17 when Anya graduates. That is our target date.

This is going to be fun. I'm looking forward to the process, even though I hate auto mechanics.

this kinda stuff is way better and way more fun. you get to research, design and create your own specs. the bug has bitten you now!:D

I took a hole saw to the frame, cut out the tube part of the old shackle mounts and welded it in.
here is someone else's pic-
