Love, love, love. You have finally regained your sanity ... and credibility in the LC community.

looks good! about a '72? looks like a lot of the major mods are done. nice seats and steering column. must be a chevy under the hood.

so what are your plans? mild medium or large?

1970.
Body is in great shape.
Got some sort of aftermarket springs.
Disk brakes all around.
Hack job power steering.
Stock axles.
Really nice custom roll bar.
And a great big void between the grill and rear diff.
But that's perfect 'cause I've got a 5.7 first gen Vortec fresh and ready sitting in the garage.

Plan is to build a highwayable expedition rig. Father-daughter project with 13 year old Anya.

I'll have lots (LOTS) of questions. But I know I'm in good hands.

Feels good to be back in the fold.

You couldn't find something decent in Colorado and had to come back to NM to get one?

perfect! room for what you want to put in, body is in great shape. so post up a general starting outline of plans! I know many of it will change as you go, but inquiring minds want to know.

I know for our project it is hard for me to wait for Brock to be available. I want to work on it and he's in school. :bang::D Anya is going to love it!

Cool! Keep us posted as the build progresses...

Medium!
Solidly in the middle.
Somewhere between stock and your monster.

What are you thinking about for the transmission/transfer case? I would guess it's easier to use a Chevy tranny, but it seems there are adapters for almost any combo out there?

Hi Evan,
Even though I have the automatic that was mated to my engine I think I'll go with an NV4500 - overdrive and granny. And mate that to a Land Cruiser split case. A standard and straight forward configuration.

Sounds good - the standard tranny seems to be a better fit for a 40 - looking forward to seeing it on the trail!

You might do some homework on the NV4500 in a 40. I seem to recall it is really long.

moving the rear axle back is almost always required with any swap. it's good for ride comfort too. and ledges...:D

Agreed, but wouldn't that mean sawzalls, sparks and jagged body parts laying on the garage floor?

not necessarily. there are a few spring options that can do it with a longer hard mount to center pin distance(i.e.-FJ55, FJ60, Cherokee). of course you have lift springs and the only way to do it by keeping your springs is to turn the whole spring pack except the one with the military wrap and redrill the center pin hole on that leaf to match. some don't like to do that (thinking it weakens the leaf), others have done it with no problems.
but that entails no change to your spring mounts. it nets about 4", which is usually enough to get a rear drive shaft in.

edit- also a bit longer spring would help that shackle angle a bit. straight up and down is a jarring ride! trust me.

Suspension is one of many head scratches I'll have to itch. Or itches to scratch.
