Well I scored on Craigslist this past weekend... picked up a Norcold MRFT460. this is the big Norcold, same fridge as the
Engel MT60. i was talking to a good friend today about fridges- he was stoked I got this, as he also saw it on CL. but he made a comment worth repeating, I'll paraphrase: Fridge space is the most valuable space there is. You can always shove other stuff somewhere else, but cold stuff can only go in the fridge.
Was almost profound, and that really sold me on the big guy.. I've lived the 45 quart life so I'm ready for the next level. Yup, it takes up half the back. I can put a small tool bag, portable 12v air compressor bag, few other things ahead of it between it and the back seat. My plan is to build a drawer system on the other side for all tools and recovery gear, with a height equal to the height of the fridge. So easy to still see over, and when I move a card table, big stroller, TV, it'll just rest on top of the fridge and drawers. I also want to be able to remove the drawers, so I can pop the 3rd row seat back in for those special times the kids need to take friends, or the wife needs to drive 7 women to bunco...
My last rant on fridges is they should be easy to access without a slide- you want grabbing something to be a 5 second deal, not 30. So this one is staying on the floor, so the door can open all the way and you can easily access all of it from the outside, with the tailgate closed. On with the pics.. behold the 60 quart and all its glory.
