What do you use to carry your tools in your rig? (2 Viewers)

I recently built a rear storage solution, and I have been wondering what methods people have used to carry their tools with them when going off road? Boxes,bags or tool cases or whether they have a separate set of tools they always have on the rig. I am looking for a solution that can be stored and not be to bulky while out on the trails and at the same time have all the tools necessary to make any on trail fixes.

I use nylon tool rolls and put them in my drawers.
Unroll the tool rolls on tailgate and everything is visible.

Tool rolls. Unless you like the sound of wrenches and tools rattling in a tool box while driving on washboards.

Ratchets and extensions fit in the tool tools nicely, sockets I put it a heavy nylon pouch

Sockets attach to a socket organizer/holder. Ratchet into tool roll.

I used a Huggies diaper box for about 10 months until the duct tape used to hold it together disintegrated. Now I have a sweet Ryobi canvas bag that a bunch of horrible cordless tools came in.

I realize I complain about being poor a lot, but this may really drive it home for some of you. All of the tools in the bag are from Harbor Freight.

I have everything in labeled pouches and Planko water tite plastic bins. Then the bins go into one larger canvas bag and the pouches go into a different larger bag with larger tools like sledge, saw, breaker, etc. When I finally build my drawers they will be tall enough to allow the Planko bins to be stored standing up. These bins are perfect for organizing tons of small things.

Commonly used tools in canvas rolls in the drawer. Lesser used tools / spares in the hardigg case. A half drawer set up with pelicans/hardigg cases works best for me for flexibility.

I have the same bag in the back of my rig! As it turns out, it was the best tool of the bunch. They all started out nice, but the eventually the batteries gave out but I got plenty of use so I bought a couple more battieries that crapped out in no time but for some reason I can't throw them out, they just keep taking up space in my tool boxes.

NLXTACY, do you actually find needs for all the nuts, bolts, etc that you take with you?

I've been using the 12-inch version of these steel cables for sockets, separate rings for 3/8 and 1/2 drive:

It's the only socket solution I've been happy with. Just toss the rings in a tool bag.

NLXTACY, do you actually find needs for all the nuts, bolts, etc that you take with you?

Well, I hope to never really need them but...it seems every time I do. I could easily take a smaller selection of the bolts but since its all in one container its just easier. Whenever I'm working on something in the field, or at a buddy's house, there is always a bolt that gets lost/broken. Since all of our bolts are metric its not guaranteed that I'll find a version at the local hardware store at the random state I happen to be in. Its just one of those things that I keep saying, "Sure glad I brought this along".

I got two free Bestop bags for free from a family members throw out pile. They are heavy duty canvas with cloth liners and big zippers. Oh and they are tan so they match the interior. One of mine carries recovery equipment, the other has tools, and camp gear.

Same canvas bags I use. They are dirt cheap at HD. Large ones for tools and smaller ones for wifi, gps, dongles, etc.

100 piece craftsman socket set and a Makita bag full of misc. tools. I've done a campsite complete front axle tear down to get back home, never needed anything else. Just take the necessities.

I have mine in a tool roll that stores in the jack area and use a bungee to keep it secured. Bigger stuff goes in an action packer. If I can't fit in that, then I'll just have to call AAA for a tow.

There are nice small canvas pouches at military surplus stores. That's what I use for my spare hoses and clamps.
