(1988 FJ62) Today I went for a drive and I high centered on a snow bank, well after winching myself off I noticed ATF in the snow. It is a constant drip it appears to be coming from the cooling hose but I am not sure if it is leaking onto the hose from another location. I did notice when I was trying to get unstuck by shifting from D-R and R-D that it sounded like the rear would engage and a split second the front would engage.:censor: Now This just happened today and I have only been able to look at it under poor light and on my back on the frozen ground. Tomorrow I will be able to take it to the garage and use the lift so I can investigate more. So my question is what should I look for? What kind of damage and where might the damage be if I high centered on the tranny?

Thanks in advance

Bruce

No skid plate? Did you check your fluid level?

The path from trans output shaft to front hubs has more gears than to the rear. More gears means more slop.

Yes I checked the fluid level. It did not seem low but when I attempted to tighten a hose connection it started gushing fluid. I am still unsure if it's comming from the cooling hose. When I noticed how fast the ATF was comming out I headed home asap with a quick stop to buy ATF. I will check it sometime today after it sat overnight.

i found the problem, it was the metal return line. So I went to Napa the only auto part store around. I purchased steel brake line and molded it myself. It was a long day but I learned tons....
