What big old TV should I buy?

I have a panasonic 42" plasma, haven't seen any burn in yet after a couple years of use. I don't have much to add because the technology changes so fast, except keep your eyes open for black friday, typically there are really good deals on flat screens if you can stomach the crowds.

Very happy with the Panasonic Plasma that I bought (as detailed in that thread). In fact, I bought two 50" for the house and a 42" for the children's apartment at Auburn.

My advice would be the following: If it's a very bright room then buy an LED LCD (e.g. Samsung). If not, and you want the best picture quality you can buy for the money then buy plasma (but buy a good one).

Go to your local mom and pop electronics\tv store and pick up a Sony. When I bought mine they were honest in telling me that Sony doesn't sell different models based on the dealer. You buy the same model at WalMart as you would at BB or the local guy. Buy from the local guy and remind him that you get the same thing from the big guys and he will come close on the price.

You may pay a few $'s more but should get better service and the satisfaction of not buying from the box store.

Also Sony has models and specs to meet any budget and are among the best made imho.
