Anyone know what purpose these hoops that are welded on the front axle housing serve? I've always wondered but now I want to weld something partially across the front facing one on each side (I'm going to put the shock mounts in double shear and don't want to move the existing mount). Anyone see any problems with this? Thanks in advance.

Those are bump stops used to set your steering limits on your knuckles. You should have an accompaning bolt and set screw on your knuckles

Thanks! My cruiser has been apart for over a decade so I forget these things.

Does anyone have a picture of them in action (i.e. limiting the knuckles) so I can see clearances?

Ha ha me too on the pic of them in operation. I have those as well but there are no limiters on them.
