I realized while troubleshooting for smog that neither of my distributor vacuum advance chambers are holding vacuum. What are the symptoms of not having the timing advance while driving?

At light to mid throttle, you'll get bad mpg and maybe hotter coolant. The vacuum advancer increases the timing a whopping 15°.

If both your advancers are shot, disable the EGR valve (except for the test). It's making a bad situation worse

I unknowingly had the vacuum lines off the vac advance module when I first bought the truck and I drove the truck 2000 miles home from Colorado to Vermont. I didn't notice any impact to my fuel mileage or engine temperature. Since i didn't have any prior knowledge i had nothing to compare the power to. Since then I have fixed it and while the truck is a little quicker with the advance working its not like its a rocket....I see the same fuel mileage and engine temp.
