What are the rules on bringing in a diesel import into the USA? (1 Viewer)

Yes I have driven Russian diesel 200's to the arctic circle several times also.....the diesel rigs are ok and I have a shot of myself outside "The Last Sushi cafe before the arctic circle" around here somewhere. A popular spot I'm sure you've heard of.......they love their sushu. :) I would drive my american 200 to some of the places I've been.....but most of my travels there have seen deep river crossings and a petrol vehicle is usually shut down and drug across by another or winched from the other side. Anyway it's a burden. I prefer to travel alone or with one other vehicle.
Mexico has been a second home for me for 30 years and I've never had any problems and drive where I want. I'm well protected by everyone there. At my home in Colorado my security runs over 6 figures a year which isn't too bad but it's a pain I rid myself of by staying in Mexico as much as possible as I plan my work and travels.
Understood. I have always driven gasoline V8 200s in Russia / Mongolia / China and the Middle East. In the first 3 countries i have either been ferried on a boat or on the back of a huge military vehicle. In the Stans and gulf states there just wasn’t much water to cross. I rarely waded anything deeper than 24 inches.

Yeah, personal security helps. I once ran a very large consultancy out of Monterrey and had 24 hour security as part of my package. Pluses and minuses but i can say that i was a lot more relaxed once I moved back to Seattle.

Certain states are afraid that importing a diesel from another country would quickly spread the feared disease of "What a truck!!! You mean I really can't buy that here??"

Pandemonium would follow and thereby cause millions of consumers pounding on the doors of lawmakers and lobbyists for an explanation. I've seen it happen. It's ugly. You don't want that over here in N America.

They may actually say ‘so glad that slow, loud tractor isn’t for sale here’.

Took the 200 out west for the first time (headed to LCDC) and between wheeling and distances between gas station, one really need to keep up filling the beast. Aux tank is a must.

I am not a fan of diesels in general, but 200 really needs it. If only we could get it here (with the factory aux tank). Even with real world ~18-19 mpg (I think the diesel is rated ~22.8mpg) it would have a sweet range with ~36 gallon tank.

Someone wanna buy mine? Ill need a whole arm and leg before i part with it though, likely your first and second born too.

So apparently certain years of 80 and 100 series are on the NHTSA exemption list? Does it mean one could bring late 100-series diesel? Maybe EPA is a separate issue...

I wonder how did they make the list?

EDIT: Yeah, EPA is separate and non-starter. And the exemption merely means it can and needs to be brought into compliance with US regulations. Not worth the bother.
