Just got back from a trip to the mountain town of Jasper, Alberta. 2- 5 feet of snow fell Friday and Saturday. What was a 7 hour, 2 wheel drive trip up there last Wednesday turned into an 11 hour, white knuckle, 4x4 trip home on Sunday. A lot of areas had heavy rain during the day Friday and Saturday that turned to ice overnight. There were trucks in the ditches all over the place (Most of them were 4x4's). We decided to get off the main highway when we got to Hinton, too many idiots on the road driving like it was balmy sunny day. We took the #40 South. What started out as a well plowed road soon turned into an unplowed road with 3 feet of snow on it! Fortunately a 6x6 water truck had driven the road the day before, so that gave me something to follow, but it still meant a 2 hr/50 mile run through 2-3 feet of snow! The HJ60 handled like a dream. At no point during the trip did the truck falter, slide or feel squirrely. I've got Bridgestone Revo AT's on the truck that I absolutely love. I've got 3 years of mountain travel on the tires and they easily outperform any other tires I've put on a 4x4 for all round use. I've run General Tire's, BFG's, Pirelli's, Hankooks, Nokia/Hakkapeliita's, Yokohama's and Khumo's and none off them gave me the surefooted feeling these Revo's do. Granted the other tires were on other 4x4's not my HJ60 so that has to be factored in. What a trip though, I was shooting an 8 foot high roostertail of snow as the 2H effortlessly plowed through the terrain. I love my truck.

Great short story. I wish I could experience some snow. Dont get too much around here:D

I've done the same thing when I had a contract at an indian reserve north of Harrison Lake in B.C. about 3-4 years ago. I had about 50km on a logging road in January. Rooster tails from the front wheels!
Personally though, I'm not real big on snow. The Guatemalan climate is more to my liking.

Land Cruiser + snow = tons of fun....
ask anyone that has attended the annual "River Shiver" run.

As soon as I read "We took the #40 South" I was thinking "he did what?!!". If Jasper got that much snow then the #40 was guaranteed to be a freaking mess. I know because we drive it when it's a mess just for fun, but we do it with at least two trucks so if one of us "falters" the other is there to help.

We went that way last year on our way to Ruby Falls and they had 3 feet of snow the night before. Made for an interesting drive.

Glad you made it safe and sound.
