I have yet to find a proper OEM Aisin carb for my 99% original 65 FJ40 and don't even know if it even runs anymore anyways. I recently sourced a Lexus 4.0 1UZ-FE engine, trans, and ECU and am considering swapping this in. Searching hasn't really turned up much technical info for me so I was wondering where I could start looking to find out what parts I should be adding up to my collection. Also, let me know what you guys think. The rig I have is in great shape for it's age and would be a good candidate for a resto, but I originally bought it for a wheeling rig. I'm torn. Help sway me either way here guys.:hmm:

since you live in az that thing is probably on the low end of the rust scale. Therefore, restore it sell it to some fanatic buy two beater fjs from the money and build a offroader with the lexus power plant. woot woot

Howdy! Lexi power would be an interesting setup. What are you going to use for a transfer case? John

I was thinking of a 100 series TCase as I read somewhere it will line up with FJ40 axles better than a Tundra's. I'm wondering if it will be geared low enough if I use the Lex trans, I don't know enough about it.

It came from Western Texas originally, but it's very very rust free. The only rust to speak of is a little under the rear doors on the sill. I am having that replaced in a month or two. That was kind of my thinking here was to sell it for a beater cruiser and some extra money. I don't know what to do.:bang:

I have a 2006 Tundra V-8 and 6 speed tranny lined up for my 68 and was wondering the same thing about gearing and t cases. I have always planned on the fact that the 4.10's can be change in the axles if nessicary. I am worried about lenght and clearences with the Tundra set up.

Let us know what you find out and pics if possiable. Thanks!

If I had a 99% original FJanything I wouldn't do an engine swap. I might lock the axles, lower the transfer case gears, lift it with leaf springs, and go to 35" tires - all reversible.

Just seems a shame to see another nice one go under the knife. :)

It has some nasty bumpers on it, it has some sheeatty Carter Carb on it that doesn't work, and it was rattle canned a year or so ago. Besides that, it's unmolested. It needs a lot of cleanup work, and a smidge of TLC. I think I'm getting the confirmations of what I needed to hear. Make it pretty, flip it, buy a beater. I bought this one off EBAY thinking it was a beater and when I went to pick it up I was blown away by how great of shape it was in. The seller was upset to see it go (especially at the price I won it for).

Have you checked with Mark A. or Jim C. to see if they have a carb for you? Might also post up in the wanted section to see of someone has one kicking around you could rebuild.

Yep and yep. :frown: I'll keep checking though, thanks.
