Some of the heavier things I'm packing in the rear have me concerned about getting knocked silly if I should roll or auger in forward. So I'm thinking about rigging up a cargo net behind the bucket seats for protection.

Anyone else done anything similar? Any suggestions on sources for the netting?

Do you strap your gear down? If not I'd do that before putting a net in!

I flopped my rig recently, and was glad to find out that all my gear is strapped properly.. Nothing came out of the rig except for drum roll.... all my center console stuff...:)

My Ambulance used to have webbing in the back, but that was mostly to keep me from flopping around in an accident. I like strapping stuff down better.

I know some people with 80s have put up webbing and it makes a lot of sense to me. Also look at your hardtop behind the B pillar for a couple bolt holes. I am thinking about making a divider that bolts into those.

strap stuff down - what net will be as strong as tie down straps ?

Strap Down, Cargo Net... Find what will work for you. But I would do something !!!:deadhorse:

Even with a net I can still see strapping down the heaviest of items. However with something like this:

a lot of gear could just be loaded up without strapping and unstrapping everytime. It might be a PITA if you regularly carried more than 1 passenger, but with only front seat occupants it seems like it could be convenient and offer added safety.

Appreciate the replies!

the stuff would still flop around in the back and could fall out the truck sideways when you're offcamber :meh:

I strap down, if only to keep the rattles at bay

Like Claudia said your stuff is still going to fall out of the rig if you roll, or tip, or whatever..

Put all the small stuff, in Rubbermaid boxes, or pelican cases, etc... You can buy multiple small ones to organize better.. and it's easier to strap several boxes rather than a bunch of loose stuff that's going to kill someone in an accident.. (even with a net)

Most people learn the hard way, we are trying to help you without you having to do that...:meh:

Here's a couple examples.... (these are the best pictures I have of my storage so sorry for the banner)

Nice setup ^

I should have mentioned that I'm running with the hard top on. That would keep the stuff contained. Now pull pals and heavy tools I figure to strap down, heck they could take out a side window or clean my clock.

The webbing would be just to keep the sleeping bags, tents, clothes duffles etc from flying about.

What do you think?

I have a cheap HF cargo net for a pickup strapped across the rollbar uprights. It's mostly to keep my dog from climbing into the front seat when I'm not in the car. It's the elastic type stuff so it wouldn't do anything in a major crash, but for camping and stuff it keeps those slippery action packers from sliding forward during braking. I looked for some cargo net type webbing like in that picture, but everyplace wanted quite a bit of money for a few straps. Before I bought the cargo net, I just used a bunch of those 1" webbing straps and created like a horizontal grill of webbing on the rollbar hoop (yeah, I should have just used all those straps to strap stuff down, but I had stuff packed to the roof I haven't installed the tie down points in the bed yet.)
