I'm in the middle of an engine swap on my 40 and I'm using an '86 2F from a 60 so I thought this would be the place for questions/identification. I'm currently trying to figure out where my water temp guage gets installed. I think that this was the 60's electric water temp sensor but need some clarification. My plan was to swap the electric sensor for my mechanical sensor. If this isn't the right place please direct me to the right spot. Pictures would be great as well!!!:crybaby:

That is where the factory electric sending unit goes.

it's 1/2 male pipe thread into the head. I put a t fitting into mine retaining the stock sending unit on one side and mechanical gauge fitting into the other side. Can't hurt to have 2 and it's a $1.50 T so why not?

That's really cool - do you have any pics, or more info on how this went?

There should be 2 ports on the top of your 2F head for water temp senders. Sometimes one is just closed with a threaded plug. Also, sometimes the aftermarket temp sender is too long to fit and needs an extension pipe to work.
Also, if you want your stock 40 watertemp gauge to work, you have to use your stock temp sender for it. 60 sender won't work with a 40 gauge.
