Water Jacket thumity thump clump clang

OK SO I pulled the original 2f from my 85fj60 with the intention of rebuilding it. The motor has been on a pallet for 2 years and I finally got it on an engine stand and started tearing it down. WHen I flipped it I hear this thumpity clump in the water jacket. Move forward a week I found that the vacume leak I was never able to find was caused by a helicoiled head by the PO and I abandoned the rebuild. New 2f from my 82fj60 donor truck up on the engine stand all going smashingly and I turn it again thumpity clumpity clump. WHAT is inside the waterjacket that makes this noise??

Could be old freeze plugs...have see people just push them in when they rusted out. They will bump around when you turn engine

It's not a freeze plug they are all in tact. I'm thinking it's a casting chunk? If it were on just one motor I wouldn't care but on two makes me really really want to know what it is. Im guessing there is a long block getting cut open this weekend.

yes the ones you can see in the block might be fine, but are they the original ones?

I'm going to say I have no idea. The noise comes form the area where the cam and crank come thru the block that area that is hollow I'm calling a waterjacket? It sounds like a random gear that is flopping around in no mans land. Sorry for the lack of good description.
