Today I put in a new air filter and for the first time I read the instruction that it comes with; it says the filter should be washed and blow dried not replaced. Who does this? Am I wasting money putting in new ones?

I have a couple filters. I wash one and let it dry and stick the other one in. I don't think i'll need to buy another for quite some time! Good ol' 80!

Ditto here. Rotate two perfectly good OEM washable filters.

The newer OEM filters are washable, I plan to wash mine instead of replacing it.

Is this a late April fools joke!:D

I check mine every oil change and wash if needed.

Since I go to Moab every May. I just change mine on the way home. It is filled with Red dust on top of what else. I have not washed them before even though I know you can. Now that I have two trucks that will be at Moab, I will have to rethink this.

I will probably wash the olds ones and see how they look on the shelf after a while.

NO jokes, but only the new filters:D I just ordered 2 on Monday:)

Already here on Thursday Thanks Cdan

i use the spin cycle on my dryer to get most of the water out of it. it fits on top of the spindle just right. lol. i have to wash mine often so i'm thinking of making a custom spin dryer just for this. I have a couple of motors and just need to fab up a table and spindle.

I have a problem with the idea of washing them. My problem is that if a piece of dirt is moving fast enough to get stuck in the filter isn't it also moving fast enough to tear or penetrate the filter. As long as it is lodged in the filter it will not allow other dirt to pass but if you wash that dirt out aren't you creating a hole that unfiltered air can get in?

The particles don't actually tear the material, they get trapped in the loosely woven folds and fibers. If the material was too constrictive it wouldn't flow air fast enough so there is a minimum micron barrier that traps dirt flowing in or blocks it on the surface.

I've washed a lot of filters for Yamaha toys, and Toyota toys...never have I had issues with old filters. YMMV.
