Ross, does the Dyna have an identical tray to a 75 cruiser?

Dave

Similar in looks and will fit with some cussin, but Midland 4x4 say it looks crap.
I think you end up with more overhang at the rear and a gap between the cab tray
Its the dual cab dyna they used.

Saw some FG flares on a OEM tray too,not sure where they come from

I also saw this cool trailer and now I want one:D
It kinda looks Dynarish but it has a 4wd badge??

Wow a 4wd trailer ! Sure that can help in some bad situation !

I think it refers to the electronic controlled 1HDFTE only. Australia stopped getting the 1HDT in 1995. It's too ancient for them :)

Dave

I'm not dreamed drive a Troppy with the 210 HP 1HD-FTE not yet .. but I can imagine drivin it on a mud trail in 3rd gear .. both factory locker engaged, spining tires very hard .. wooooouuuu fantastic .. !

There was a long distance road test on an identical blue troopy in Aust 4WD monthly early 2005. They took it through the desert and it got a full 10/10:D

Pity it costs the same as a new Mercedes:doh:

other question .. why this spacer between tranny and transfer . ?

The R151 is based on a light truck/passenger car design where the shifter sits external to the main gearbox in a rear extension of the body. Since the BF1A split case was designed for a Land Cruiser, I guess Toyota needed to put the transmission shifter in the extension ;)

but I thought those troopys are considered by Toyota as heavy duty ( half ton ) truck, so they need H151 not R version ..

This cab chassis ,(Workmate model) has the R151 and the turbo RV troopy has the H150f

However I suspect it is dependant on the engine. The turbo diesel get the H150 and the NA diesel gets the R151.
I dont think its related to the body, but I will check next time I see a turbo RV cab chassis:D

Both have the spacer.

I thouhgt the R151 bell housing is very similar to H55F bellhousing .. and off course diferent from H151 and H150 .: ?

Yes, Rosco is correct, the HZJ78 gets the R151 while the HDJ78 gets the H150 and the FZJ78 gets the H151. I am guessing there is a load or power rating Toyota feels each gearbox should be subjected to. The R151 is probably good enough for a 1HZ with its 96 kW output. But when it comes to the turbo diesel or the petrol motor, Toyota did not mate the higher output engines to the R151. Why would Toyota equip the HDJ and the FZJ models with the H150 gearbox family if the R151 is good enough?

This is not to say the R151 will not survive behind a turbo'ed 1HZ, etc. because obviously many HZJ78/79s had aftermarket turbo added. (Certainly many pre 2002 models have had problems with the R151 whether with or without turbo, but the upgrade in the 2002 apparently took care of the problem.)

To answer your question, David, the R151 bellhousing pattern is quite different from the H55 or the H150. It shares the same pattern (and overall design) with the AX15 transmission used in the Jeep Wrangler by the way. They are made by the same manufacturer.

Which brings up another point. Even in the Jeep world, the AX15 is not considered the strongest candidate for V8 swaps. Many are switching to the NV4500 for high output engines.

Thanks Dave ..

ideas, if the AX15 have the same bolt pather that R151 and H150 ( I htought those boeht are diferent than H151 )we can easy bolt 4.0 6L Hight Output engine to a R1515 in a Toy .. ?

And the same .. someone that have a 4.0 HO j**p with a AX15 can change easy to R151 tranny ( that I supose to be more stronger than AX15 )

A Jeep motor in a Toyota??? Hmmm, that is an interesting concept :D

The AX15 uses many of the same components as the R151 and the parts that differ are the same size and materials. I don't think the R151 would be any stronger than the AX15.

I-N-P-U-T shaft :)

R151 on the left, AX15 on the right.

it seems that you can easy change the input shaft ..

So not .. ! I'm not talking about J**p engine in a Land Cruiser .. ;) is only an emergency option .. you know, maybe you found some R151 in a Toy picup .. without engine .. also found a cheap 4.0 HO ( 190 HP .. ? ) :D

Some more pics underneath and around the troopy. Beanz, thats the valve thingy that gasser 73 series dont have. This one is fitted to the subtank
OOOH they are so shiny:D
I busted that little jigger on my 78 Troopy, I thought it must be a little filter, do you know what it does?
Thanks
Stu

It appears to be a one way valve for a vent for the tank.

Nice 78, Stu

Dave

Hi Stoo ,any info on your troopy like the tyre size ,type of snorkle ect.

Looks great especially with mud on it.
We seem to be getting an overload of driveway queens here lately:rolleyes::D
