I started having trouble switching between fresh and recirculated air. Felt like it was binding, not all the time but more often than not.
Pulled the glove compartment and found the wiring to the ECU had migrated to the point it was catching the mechanicals. It had worn through the outer electrical tape but had not chewed through the wire insulators yet.
Just passing along in case it helps someone. Once those wires short out you are screwed.
