I have always heard that you need a winch rated at 1.5 times the weight of the vehicle. If my 80 is 6200 lbs then a 9.5xp would be fine. Is there something I am missing? I'm sure a 12k is sweet, but not sure it is worth the money.

Stay with the better quality winches. We bought a bunch of MileMarkers and were not happy.

dang snatchblocks are surprisingly expensive though...
Dittos, wire rope is a PITA to handle off the spool.alia176 said:Eric,
I have pursposely shortened by winch cable to about 75'. This helps keep the amp draw to a min and the rpm is higher (warn m10k) However, it truly sucks to carry the remaining cable (with eye loops at each end) coiled up in the back! That s*** is unwieldy and a nuisance when it comes to storage, not to mention heavy. A friend is giving me 100' of some sort of a syn rope as an extension for doing past favors. This will work out much better I think.
