I have been reading about winches. Last time I was stuck it was up to my axles in mud with all 3 jeeps using snatch blocks. My bumper is an arb and I want something that is going to reliable, and will get the job done. If the 16.5ti will fit it would be nice because I do water crossings sometimes. I have dual batteries I just need to figure out what to stuff in there. The prices are pretty close on all of these. Any thoughts?

I think all of those have the same drum/housing size as the 12k. I was thinking of going to the 15k myself in the next year.

Might wanta search for a used 12k.....we found one in a thirfty nickel for $800.00 brand new.....came off a ford.

I have used it once:crybaby: got stuck in the canyon at Gray Rock-worked great & wife has never let me live it down.

IMO, the M12K is the minimum requirement for a loaded 80 Series. When the M15K came out I had checked the Warn website and compared specs (bolt patterns/dimensions). IIRC the 15K was slightly longer but should fit (tightly) in the ARB bar. Bolt patterns were identical. I never looked at anything larger.

Please keep me updated as to your findings. Never too much pulling power IMO.

you will need to cut/grind to get it in there... you have to do so for the 12k as it is.

I have a slee and I have room...I think it will fit in mine! :)

Guy at GSMTR last year had a 16.5 mounted and said it mounted like it was made for a ARB.

No grinding to fit my M12000

Isn't the ARB 80 series bumper only -rated- for a 10,000 lb winch? I'm curious... Would a 16,000 lb winch run the risk of pulling the face off the bumper or folding it?

Yes, I have a Warn M12K in my ARB. It did not require any cutting. If you plan to have the solenoid box on the M12K, then the solenoid box has to sit at a slightly weird angle. The winch itself bolted right up for me.

YMMV

Some specs from the Warn website:
M12K
Winch Dimensions: 24.37" L. x 8.45" D. x 11" H.
Mounting Bolt Pattern: 10.0" x 4.5"
30 ft/min no load
4.39 ft/min 10000 lb load 370 amps

M15K
Winch Dimensions: 25.2" L. x 8.5" D. x 11" H.
Mounting Bolt Pattern: 10.0" x 4.5"
22.2 ft/min no load
3.31 ft/min 10000 lb load 335 amps

M16.5ti
Winch Dimensions: 24.7" L. x 8.5" D. x 9.7" H.
Mounting Bolt Pattern: 10.0" x 4.5"
23.6 ft/min no load
5.12 ft/min 10000 lb load 342 amps

IMO the 16.5ti is the clear winner here.

I'm not a metalergy expert, but I think it would take quite a lot of force to start to deform the winch cradle in an ARB bar. There is quite a lot of steel and support in there.

I would be concerned with the frame horns and mounting hardware first.

I thought the "i" was integrated solenoid, meaning you can't move the solenoid box. If the solenoid box on my M12 were where it is on the 16.5, it wouldn't fit. I had to clock it around about 30* to get space.

You dont have to cut anything... ARB and Warn work together...

My options without cut:

1. Warn 16.5
2. Warn 12.000
3. Warn 15.000 (They have problems)

But if you don't have problems with cut your car... THE BEST is Patriot 15.000, I use Warn and Ramsey in Rally, and you see the difference.

Now, I'm going to buy the 16.5 because I don't want cut anything...

What page are you using for buy the winch?

have you actually fit a 12k in there yourself? i have, you have to cut. there was even an article in toyota trails about it IIRC. also, you will have to alter the mounting of the control box.

ARB FJ80/FZJ80 winch mount bumper. No cutting with a Warn M12000 winch. You DO have to drill 2 holes through the roller fairlead that Warn ships with the winch, but those are easy and can be guided by the bumper's holes if you think it through.

No cutting. I have one on my truck and I wasn't drinking when I installed it.

The solenoid box DOES sit at an odd angle that is easy to attain using the dryer vent hose clamps that Warn ships with the unit.

From surfing the net 16.5TI runs $1,295 shipped--this appears to be a reasonable price. Can synthetic line be run on this or will I have to stick with cable? Also plan on getting an ARB snatch block.

12k in mine, no cutting - the article you're thinking of is for the 60 series.
