I made the mistake of stepping on the scale shortly after Christmas, 261, it’s the heaviest I’ve ever been. This thread is to help me get out and move, under my own power, more. Hiking, backpacking, biking, kayaking; I enjoy it all, I just need to get out and do it
more. I am hoping to change the title of this thread to Formally Fat Man someday. If you have trips planned or want to set something up let me know.

I am going to post up when I plan something and would welcome any company.

Kicked off the new year with a hike at South Mountain State Park

Awesome.

When you're moved to NC I put on about 25 lbs. There's nothing better to take it off than running trails. If you enjoy hikes, I cant recommend trail running strongly enough. Run what you can, walk when you have to. Watch the wright weight fall away.

I’ve done a few trail 5k’s and they are great. The whitewater center runs them ever month, I don’t think I’m quite there yet but once I get the strength back in my legs I hope to

Strava is a great tool. See you on there.

I've lost about 30 lbs now in around 6 weeks, and have felt better than in years doing no "extra exercise." I am keeping busy with the move, but . .

Two keys for me:

1. Reduced insulin production and resistance by 12-18 hour daily "fasting" - simply don't snack early and late - I eat only from Noon to 6 PM letting my body "rest" from insulin production, which also normalizes hormone levels and reduces insulin resistance in the long run.
2. Carb intake lowered - no processed sugar and <40g of carbs per day.

With all your exercise, you can probably go 80+ grams of carbs a day and still burn off liver and body fat.

Common carb amounts: 1 beer (17g), piece of bread (22g each), green veggies at 4g/serving. Before the new diet, I probably ate/drank 150g of carbs or more per day and early/late - - our bodies simply need time to normalize from insulin production or we become resistant and that leads to type 2 diabetes once you hit 50.

Yea it is, what’s

That's great man, keep it up.

My dad was just diagnosed with Type 2 and that was another reason I really wanted to get serious. He is on shots, and exercises, but still eats like s***. Evey thing he eats is processed, he wont eat sugar, but he will eat a whole plate of fries with gravy. I was a cook at an Italian restaurant in high school - college, so I learned to appreciate all kinds of foods. I also have celiacs which I have ignored for years because beer and soft pretzels are awesome.

I'm am trying to keep it simple at first, lots of veggies, started making my own stocks, soups, dressings, etc. The white sugar is going to be the toughest, its been a struggle.

Interestingly, this book was on sale yesterday on Audible so I bought it. I highly recommend it! Lots of medical references and paradigm shifting.
