    Dude...where have you been? :flipoff2:

[Eric in front of computer, dark room, lurk mode...]

I'm actually the opposite: I can't stand Keillor (and his smug self-importance  ), but like Click and Clack.....

The Brit shows Sunday AM are cool too....

Though there are shows I'd don't enjoy, I do still support NPR/PRI directly because it is an alternative to the horrible schlock out there....

My NPR outlet replaced "Wait Wait" with "The Motley Fool," yet it runs "Prairie Home Companion" on Saturday AND Sunday?!?! I'd rather have more shows and the corresponding choice of which to tune in.

What am I saying? I was driving home yesterday afternoon listening to Lynn Rosetto Casper. If 17-year-old-me ever saw that in my future, I'm sure there would have been some carbon monoxide intervention.

I think we all still support NPR, don't we? (funded by taxes)

While most of the programming isn't wildy entertaining, it is a nice alternative to the other radio stations. Since I got XM though, I haven't listened to any of it. It's nice keeping the antenna down all of the time and not having to worry about breaking it.

Read "Home Grown Democrat" by GK. It reveals a lot about why I am one as well. I don't like his show much though.

I listen to Car Talk when I can. used to be every Sunday out in my shop. Now I have a hard time catching it. Part of the problem is the dearth of NPR in Chicago suburbs. I can't even get a blues program here. How wrong is that?

I like both of these shows.

Prairie Homo Companion seems like it is for depressed people...

Point your browser to www.kunc.org - tune into American Routes from 2-4 on Sturdays, follow up with Beale Street Caravan at 8 and then the Blues Hour at 9 - good stuff!

    I just say NO to NPR--of course I can't take the funding away . . . .

Gotta admit I think Click and Clack are often funny; however, GK comes across EXACTLY as beno describes him: smug and self-important. I don't appreciate the condescending nature of his humor. A liberal is a liberal, be they Prairie or Patrician variety.

wait wait is okay, love Car Talk though... The only part of PHC that I like is the "News from Lake Wobegon" - the rest of it I can live without.

Everyone needs to listen to "This American Life" - best show on the radio, period. You can listen to them via their archive any time you want at www.thisamericanlife.com -- look for the story "The House on Loon Lake" as a GREAT example of how excellent this show is...well, it's one of my favorites, at least.

On The Media is pretty good, too. You can get it as a Podcast.

The Dianne Rhem show is good, and one of our local shows "The Glen Mitchell Show" every Friday is called the "Everything you ever wanted to know" show - it's kind of like this board: people call in with all sorts of stupid/interesting/crazy questions and then other listeners call in with the answers. We also get the BBC World Report every night, and I really enjoy that.

One program that we don't get here is "The Thistle and Shamrock with Theona Richie" - It's all Scottish, Irish and Scotts-Irish music produced out of Charlotte. Friggin' brilliant!

Try this one. It used to be on WEMU out of Eastern Michigan until Thayrone was fired. Hip shakin' soul music and industrial strength rhythm and blues.

Yep. Great show, and an AWESOME episode. "The Fix Is In" too. But there is such a thing as too much David Sedaris.

I like this stuff! Thanks for the link ..

"Don't feed me sugar, if ya don't wanna be ma honey bee.."

"Don't touch my broom, if ya don't wanna sweep my room baby"

Or something like that .. :D

Reminds me of something I'd expect to hear in that diner at the beginning of Pulp Fiction.

The majority of the funding of NPR and Public Television comes from private donations in large sums, but as most donations go, they accept any sum.

We can go here and check out the actual disbursement of tax payer funds:

    http://www.cpb.org/aboutcpb/financials/budget/

Seems some things the government does doesn't have anything to do with invading and blowing up different cultures...but instead....learning about them....then figuring out how to destroy them...
