New or used?I have a replacement if you’re interested…
Used, but it would be a downgrade anyways. You’ll want a 03-07 (upgraded diff)
My 05 upgraded diff took a sh&t, so who knows??? I’ve asked my Toyota shop if the installer of my new control arms (back in Feb) who sent me off and running with loose front control arms lead to the demise of my front diff. I suspect it was the contributing factor but will defer to the expert dealer to advise me. I’m replacing with new, I think. Thanks for your offer!Used, but it would be a downgrade anyways. Mechanic put a stethoscope on rear diff, t-case, and front diff. Noise was all from front diff. Weird, I know. Noise must be transmitting through driveline, b/c it sounds like it’s all in the back part of truck. There was a post on the forum from another member that had exact symptoms I was experiencing and sound was same on his when running in stands- broken front diff ring gear teeth. I chose to take mine to the best Cruiser shop in my state, 100 miles away. I’ve requested an official autopsy on the diff.In the video the noise was coming from the rear end?
I probably could have driven the truck another 200K miles without complete failure but the wah wah wahs were killing me. I’m wondering if my loose control arms lead to the diff’s damage. I’d be curious to know others’ opinions on loose control arm residual damage risks.Mechanic put a stethoscope on rear diff, t-case, and front diff. Noise was all from front diff. Weird, I know. You were right, it was the KO2s. Thankfully. Master diagnostic tech got involved somewhere / somehow (he was out the day service advisor said I needed new diff), and said no way it’s diff. He bore scoped it and said gears looked pristine. Told me to put new less aggressive tires on. I went with Yokohama GO15 ATs. Noise almost gone now- no longer drives me bonkers on the road. It's the KO2's. They're not exactly known for being the quietest tire on the planet. If you want something quiet get michelin's. They may not be as beefy looking as the KO's but they do pretty good off road and they are whisper quiet on the road. The difference in ride quality is more than enough to justify the price. They'll also last 70-80k miles given proper alignment and rotation.
I had a set of the G015's on my last 80 series. They're good tires. You should be pretty happy with those. You were right, it was the KO2s. Thankfully. So far so good. Still hear a little tire noise, but the mind-numbing droning is gone. I have GO15s on my 80, my wife’s GX, and an old 4Runner. They’ve been really good. The tread doesn’t seem to last as long as the KO2s, but I never keep tires on for more than about 4 years. All tires seem to weather check in about that time frame where I live.I had a set of the G015's on my last 80 series. They're good tires. You should be pretty happy with those.
