Can any one tell me if the voltage regulator is built into the alternator Or a stand alone unit on the LJ78??

If it is stand alone where would one look to find this critter?

Curious as my electronic voltage guage is showing what I think may be a potential problem..
After starting - voltage sits at about 11 volt - - - then when throttle is applied it moves up to about 13.5 volts. (i know this seems right)

This is hard to explain but the swing of the meter has changed, or dose not appear to swing the same way it used to.. remember this is an electronic guage, Not an analogue type. Any way just noticed this.
Maybe this is just in my head.

I'll watch it some more.. see if continues to swing continuosly this other strange way or changes..

Brushes in alternator??
Can you get to them without removeing alternator??
Is alternator below compressor for air..??
Front left side looking at motor from front?
If that is it looks tough to get at..

Ahh shucks I guess I better get the manual out..
what are brushes worth ?? Do they have a part number?

the brushes are about $5 from Toyota.
yes you need to remove the AC compressor out of the way but you do not need to remove the alternator...
cheers

Parts Confirmation / Help

OK is this the right number for the alternator brushes 27371-54412 .

Dose any one have the part number for the voltage regulator?? (a 2L-TE motor
1990 Prado).

I think I,ll do both then I know I'm running on new parts instead of 16 yr old ones..

Thanks
