Hey guys, weekend just freed up and the Tundra is up and running. You guys mind if I crash the party and do the tour with you all? Not planning on camping, I'll just drive down Saturday morning. Did you all get tickets for 1100?

Bring it Ron. Tickets are general admin.

This upcoming massive rainstorm has me rethinking this trip. I have a project that I need to wrap up before my work area is flooded, so I am needing to pull out of this trip and knock out this project tomorrow and Saturday. Sorry about that fellas

We oughta come up with a place to camp as a group. Water canyon FS CG isn't too far away, and of course the Gila is nearby. I'm open to ideas!

The tickets are free so grab them up!
One can dry camp along the mountain foothills near water canyon campground. You can turn "west" or right off the pavement heading towards the CG and find a spot anywhere along the trail. It is somewhat turd box friendly, if you go slowly through some of the washed out areas. Very easy to get to with cruisers. Cell phone friendly and great views looking north over the valley.

Saturday, I rolled into the parking lot around 9:30am and stayed in the cafeteria area to listen to the first two talks at 10, and 11. After the second one, I walked out to get a snack from my truck and ran into @pappy. He was on his way out, so after chatting, I went and did the walking tour. While I was walking around, you could see the wall of rain heading towards the visitor center. It was great seeing Onur, but we only chatted for a bit, because we were both about to head out. It started raining just as I got to my truck and it continued almost all the way home.

I posted up those coordinates as a potential meeting place. At least I think those were the correct coords!!!

were the talks given by the employees interesting ?

The director of NRAO was there and the assistant director of VLA was there and then the head of public relations.
Were the talks given by these folks interesting and informative?

I only did a tour with one of the scientists who had been there 22 years. He was very good and was able to dumb-down some very technical information. I tried to sit in on one of the presentations, but it was standing room only.
