Hey Austin folks,

I’m visiting from out of town and had the automatic transmission temp light come on in my FJ62 briefly on the drive down i35. I was cruising pretty good at 80mph for a long while. I’ve owned it 15+ years and it has been well maintained with no transmission issues. I checked transmission fluid and it was a low so added a little. No issues shifting but of course the light has me a paranoid. The light hasn’t come back on but my truck is not going to be used all weekend. Does anyone have a recommended local shop that could take a look? I need to get back on the road Sunday evening. I tried to call “ Landcruiser Specialist” but nobody answered. I think when I get home I’ll finally break down and get the transmission cooler I’ve been thinking about for years! Thanks!

Welcome to ATX! I've got a couple suggestions and others may chime in. You could try Land Cruiser Specialist on Highway 183, or Bearden Automotive on Technology Blvd. I've had good experiences w both shops.

Definite double down on the recommendation for Land Cruiser Specialists. They are pretty terrible at answering the phone, but pretty great at working on Cruisers. If i ever run into anything I can’t or don’t want to do myself, It goes to them.

For transmission LCS sent me to the guys Eagle Transmission. Not going to win any customer service awards but they did at least tell me drive it till it blows or spend $4k and replace it now, we'd wait if it were us though (~2 years ago and still going)

Anyone ever use Colvin Automotive? I love the guys at LCS but it can be a bit of a hassle because of where I live and work.

My neighbor has used them for body work but not heard anything on mechanical. Based on all the high dollar rides I’m guessing there is a wait there.
I’ve had good luck with Yost but never gone to them with anything too serious, I’m a Land Cruiser Specialist fan. Rising Sun may be worth checking out in an emergency but last time I tried using them they threw on a major “we don’t know how you safely made it here with all of these things wrong” quote and that was 50k mi ago

Had Colvin paint the 62, and they were good but real slow.

Talked to them today, they are weeks out. Not a shop you can just drop a car off to be fixed.
