While I am waiting on my engine rebuild, I am trying to clean up the engine compartment on my FJ60. The battery tray is coated with a black vinyl cladding which for the most part, is still in good shape. However, there are places where the stuff has bubbled up and is providing an excellent hiding place for corrosion. I would like to remove the vinyl cladding and treat the tray with POR 15 but I really don't think that I have the elbow grease to fight all the cladding off the metal. Does anyone know of something easy that will remove this stuff?

I wire wheeled the rough stuff of then covered all the exposed metal with black spray paint and a top coat of epoxy. It turned out pretty nice.

I can only repeat what David wrote. Stainless trays are a super product. Buy them.
