Hi,
My 1978 fj40 vin starts with 2911**. Going by the chart, are the numbers on the chart for the first produced that month or the last? Can’t tell if the production month is September or October...thanks

I've always assumed that it was the beginning of the month. Mine is 58914. Manufactured in June 68, but registered as a 69.

The table is not 100% accurate when compared to the door pillar data plate information. Generally, the value in the table's cell is the beginning of the month, but not always. Comparing the table information against a collection of 298 door pillar data plates from 6904-8308 gives the following results.

Beginning of the month - 86%
The month on the plate is consistent with the table, assuming the cell value is the beginning of the month.

End of the month - 12%
The month on the plate is consistent with the table, assuming the cell value is the end of the month.

Neither - 3%
The month on the plate is not consistent with the table, for either the beginning or end of the month. For most of these, the month on
the data plate is the month prior to what the table says, assuming the cell value is the beginning of the month. Assuming beginning of the month, FJ40282980 would be July. Assuming end of the month, it would be August. But the plate is marked June.
