My 66 fj 40 vin plate says model fj40 L. Does that mean it is a soft top model. I thought the HT models were fj40 LV. Thanks

L = Left Hand Drive
V = Van / Hard Top

Here is a break down list for production codes: TLC FAQ - 12.0 Production Codes

So the 6th digit is a blank (RHD) or L and the 7th digit is a V, G or P or blank = Soft Top.

Further; L=Left hand drive V=Hardtop U=3 speed. My rig came with a soft top but not oem. PO had all but destroyed areas for the hardtop the butt! lol
