Hello all. I was driving to work this morning and my truck was very sluggish. I couldn't get the thing to go over 71 MPH. I was thinking maybe the fuel filter? Any ideas? I would have done a search but I don't even know what to search for. One more thing, I've had the throttle body cleaned, and have done a complete tune up (cap, rotor, plugs no wires). Thanks for any help.

I am surprised you got a 3-FE powered 80 up to 70 :flipoff2:

How long ago was this wok done? any other symptoms? does it sound alright? missing knocking etc? if you have nto done a fuel filter now might be a good time to do one even if it is not your problem.

I have no idea so consider this a bump ^

More info would be helpful.

Does it run smoothly, but just not have the power to go any faster? Does it stumble or run rough when it peters out? Does it blow smoke? Any codes? When was the last time you looked at the air filter? Could be a dozen different things.

Thanks for the replies so far. The truck runs fine no strange noises. I did the tune up about 1000 miles ago, the air cleaner is like brand new. It seems to hesitate a little when first running it but not to bad. Is the fuel filter easy to replace? Any other cheap parts I could replace that may help?

It's kind of hard to even know if there is a problem since it seems to be running well--your only problem is one of speed? 3FE powa...

If it was capable of doing better prior to your tuneup, then I might look into fuel starvation issues: fuel filter, dirty injectors, fuel pump relay and resistor, fuel pump, bad gas, fuel pressure regulator, etc. Also check the timing to be sure you didn't bugger it up when you swapped the dis cap. You did use OEM parts, right? Maybe run a can of 44K thru it too. Oh...might as well clean the MAF or whatever they call that on a 3FE.

If that stuff all looks good, might want to do a compression test, and check for bubbles in your overflow while your at it.
