So there are rumors of a batch of FJ45LPB's having been stored, pretty much brand new, in Saudi. These cars are trickling their way into circulation.

This may be one of them.

The owner says he'll give me a 10% discount. That would make this AED 90,000 or about $24,500. He says the odometer reads something like 140 km.

I'm thinking of going and taking a look. I'm afraid I'll try to buy it.

Any hints/telltale signs to look for on this to verify if it's been stored or used and repainted?

Any thoughts on that price if its the genuine article?

You'll have to ignore that... most people who post vehicles up for sale on Dubizzle leave a lot of those fields filled in as the default. Or they put higher values in to make you check their listing. It's typical here.

Look for dry rotted rubber, oil leaks or stains, paint overspray on rubber glass weatherstrip, paint on parts that shouldn't be painted (I don't know enough to tell you what), condition of frame and underside, condition of floors. Wiring should all be perfect and factory/intact. Look at the key for signs of wear. Look for signs of it having been rusty or road-dirty.

If it is that new there should be almost NONE of the above.

If it is as good as it is advertised you should send a few over here... I'll take one for sure!

Good thoughts, thanks.

Sure, I'd take one too... But for that price? Is it worth $25K in practically new condition?

See if you can find out about that rear sliding window. I don't think Toyota ever supplied them, so it might be a dealer added option.

$25k for a truely mint 45 is a good price, original or restored.

Yes.

Of course one would still need to ship and import it into the US... a whole can of worms.

The sliding window appears to be quite common on the Saudi spec FJ45's. You can see samples here and here.

I'm going to try and go check it out this Saturday. It's about an hour's drive away from me. I want to verify for myself the rumor... and withhold the beauty of this rig.

Maybe offer him a crazy price to see if he bites... I know he spent no more than $10-12K based on other research I've been doing.

Importing to the USA won't be too bad... it's older than 25 years old so exempt from the EPA and FHWA restrictions. Pop an MPH speedo in and you'd be golden. I'm going to be looking into this a bit more in the coming months.

And thanks for jumping in on this thread... gonna order a TEQ badge now. =)
