I got one for mine at the toy dealer but it had a filler plug in the vent I had to remove. I guess that's so it will work on later years?

Napa vented gas cap part # 703-1034

I searched Stant's web site and Napa's web site and they do not list a gas cap for the '70 FJ40. Actually, the first listing is for a '76 which is Stant# 10806

Here is what Napa and Stant have listed as for a '78FJ40:

I tried NAPA and the oldest they can get is for a 76 FJ40. I got a new one from CCOT for about 15 or 20 bucks which looks just like the original.

Just FYI, I got this ^^^ part from Napa and it fits my '73 perfectly, along with solving my extreme pressure problem.

Great to know. I have the same extreme pressure problem with my 1970.

Ok, gotta ask... Do you need a vented cap? I don't have any vapor leaks in my 73 and a non vented cap. I get a little pressure build when heading up to the mountains, but always top off before the trail and I just get a little whoosh of air and have never had fuel delivery issues.

Yup, I need one. The pressure was really bad everytime I would take the cap off. One time, it spit fuel all over me.

My tank is a 25 gallon custom made jobby that is mounted under the truck.

Also, it would vapor lock and run like s***.

The cap solved all that...even idles better...weird.

I would agree that spitting gas all over you warrants a vented cap. Enjoy your new Cruiser if you make it to the Fresno area, lots of good wheeling nearby.
