I'm trying to paint a few parts on my 1974 Land Cruiser. The problem I face is that the paint shop I'm using can't match the color of my vehicle. They have already contacted 4 paint distributes to come and match, but none of them was able to do it. Electronic scanner didn't bring the color even close to the one I have. Painter is trying to find a sample chip which will be close.
What you guys do to match the color if this even possible?
My 40 was originally Grey and then was repainted by previous owner about 10 years ago into Amber-Orange-Yellow something. I don't have any detail of what that paint was or its number or manufacturer. The only thing I know that it was done in California.
I went to CCOT website and found photocopy of the PPG pallets for Toyota colors and similar colors are
1972 - 81952 Suntan Yellow
1973 - 82069 Suntan Yellow
1974 - 82172 Yellow
but I can be sure as nobody have a sample chip of this color and/or instructions of how to make it.
I'm kind of stuck. What can I do?
What actual color I have???

kinda doubt your 40 was gray originally.

73-75 I think the only years that orange came to the US, rumor was demand was very high in the US so they sent some 40s that were originally were going to another market to the US, true to not, don't know. But I do know....there are some 1974's with a non US type door panel...and they were orange(or green)

CCOT does show Pollux Orange
<- Pollux Orange - FJ40 - Code 304 - 1972 to 1975

I have used KS Auto here in Arizona, excellent matching-non computer as well FWIW!

Modern paint shops use a scanner device that can take what's needed for them to mix a color right off of something that's already painted.

I don't know what it's called or which major outlets have it (especially not in Canada) but I'd think you should be able to track down some place with that capability.

So far it's been a problem in Canada...
