I know this may sound a bit crazy, but I just found a 1987 FJ60 with 32000 miles, NO rust, perfect interior, slightly faded, but VERY clean. This is NO JOKE! A older lady owns it, her husband passed away recently. She does have an idea what she has got, but she is not really sharing prices, but it is for sale. Can you guys tell me what it is worth? I might want to keep it, or try to sell it and make a few bucks.

at least 10k up to priceless depending on shape

Sounds like a great opportunity to do something nice for a recent widow and get a killer rig. Nothing wrong with gaining a nice 60 to keep, or with making a few bucks, but if the plan is getting a killer deal from an unknowing older lady and then flipping it for a big profit, that doesn't sound like much fun.

That would be a fantastic rig to keep.

Blue book will be $3k-$4k. She could probably get 10K-$15K if she put it in front of the right crowd.

Hard to say what to offer. We all want a good deal, but a clear conscience is worth quite a bit.

How much would you be willing to pay to buy it from a knowledgeable seller? Offer her what it is worth, and sleep well.

I am not trying to screw the lady, I just don't know what it is REALLY worth. Everyone says "X", but that doesn't mean that I could sell it later if that is what I wanted to do. I think she wants around $10,000, as I said, she knows enough, but that does not mean I would offer here that much. I will talk to her more and see if cash talks. Thanks for all the input.

Maybe offer a slight premium over book value. That would be a nice truck to own and have-a time capsule. 10k seems high unless you are a collector and it really is perfect. It sounds like the type of truck CCoT will try to grab and flip.

There was a one owner, apparently immaculate 85 with about 85K miles in Houston for sale for over 1 year. They wanted 10K firm, and I don't know if it ever sold.

What do you think CCOT would sell it for?

Watch for leaks and olther issue due to it never beign driven. Gaskets and the like dont get lubricated when you only drive it a little each year.

There was another guy on here from NY (I think) who bought a low mileage 60 for around $7K I think. He is now trying to get $20K + for it!

I say whats it worth to you and what can you afford. Then go from there. That is truely a rare breed, but do check through everything thoroughly!

Keep us posted on what you decide.

that motor is barely even broken in...D@#$!!

here's a thought: check local/regional area listings for what '60 series trucks are going for. take the blue book value, compare it against the regional resale value, and split the difference with her. you both will win :)

that's a rare bird to be sure, and virtually a brand new truck mechanically save the age related wear items mentioned in previous posts.... a keeper by any account

The problem with trucks like this is that tehy do not get any better for sitting.

Brake lines get a lot of water in them, seals go bad from lack of lubrication and pitting is pissible due to water inside the motor..

Honestly I would rather have a immaculately maintained 60 with 100K on it than one that has been ignored for 30K.

that being said. If you can get it for about 8K I would do it.

I agree. Mine had only 58000 miles on it when I got it and I've had to fix everything on the truck. Far be it from just oil changes and bathes. It really needs TLC everyday. If you get it with really low miles plan on spending another 500 bucks in fluids and tuneup's and valve jobs and butt plugs etc. Look at records more closley than miles if you plan to keep it. I paid 10000.oo for mine because it had LOW miles, I should have bought a high mileage one that was cared for.

mine had 188k and had to fix nothing

Would I sell my 84 w/96k for less than $10k, NO. Would I get $10K+ for it? YES.

I'm in a good (sellers) market for clean Cruisers..any of them. Be honest with her, if you can't buy it fairly then help her market it for a fee of anything you get over say $9K, Or offer her $7K for it and tell her you are going to "fix it up" and keep for ever or as long as you can afford such a dinosauer. She don't want to try to sell it her self or it would already be gone, it don't take a true Cruiser head to find a really clean rig..just luck and timing.

Mine had 160k and cost $3000. It needed no major fixes and had no rust and good paint. I've driven it almost every day since, and it now has 210K. It has required dozens of little fixes though, as will any 20 year old vehicle. I would think that 7k for a vehicle in pristine condition would be a decent buy. CCoT would sell this as a "restoration" for $15,000 and up. I don't know how they find buyers, but they do.

I would think that if all your life you wanted a perfect FJ60, this would be the one to get and the price would not matter that much.

Cheers to that quote !! ha ha !

I just recently bought a 60 with 180K on the clock with full maint. records...runs perfect with no issues at all...15 MPG with 35" tires.

However, would I want the truck you are talking about..hell yes, I would put the work needed...toss on a OME lift and some 33's..and drive it for 20 years with normal maintenance.

Poach some pics, and let me know if you don't want it...:D :D

P.S.
I bet its your truck and your just putting the feelers out

It's still going to need at least $3K to $4K to make it nice. Remember, unless it's been jacked up on blocks, the springs are shot by now, just from the weight of the truck + 20 years. Also, think of all those water and heater hoses; how long do you think they'll last if you just started driving this thing every day. I'd say $7K: nominal, $5K to $6K: good to OK deal, $4K or less: a steal. Perhaps you could explain to her that while she can legitimately expect SOMEWHAT of a premium for the low miles, it's still going to need extensive rehab and maintenance to make it a reliable vehicle again.

Just as a reference (from an EXPENSIVE dealer), red 1985 FJ-60, all original Ca. truck with 50K miles. They wanted 20K and it sold in about a week. I think it is still on their website tlc4x4.com.
