Hi all,

I own a v6 4.0 lc200. I have recently lifted my landcruiser and installed bigger wheels, since then i have been looking for ways to squeeze more power of the stock engine considering its size.

I have come across unichip and seems a very common tune. Especially in 4.5 td v8 and people swear by the results.

Has anyone tried this on the v6 4.0 and would it be a safe option for more power considering here in the middleast temperatures reach close to 50° c

Thanks

Just guessing here, as I'm not sure how UAE-market ECU and tuning might be different, BUT:

A chip is much more likely to produce real power on a turbo diesel (or any turbo motor) compared to a naturally aspirated motor. I'm not surprised people swear by the unichip on the 4.5. But in a motor like the 4.0, I would expect very little from a tuning chip. We have the same motor here in the USA, sold in Tacoma (Hilux) and 4Runners. Basic bolt-on's like air filter, headers and exhaust will yield just a little bit more power (and a chip would probably work beetter with these supporting mods), but not by a lot, probably not worth the cost and probably not quite what you're looking for. The only real power-adder that makes a big difference on the 4.0 would be a supercharger at around $6,000 USD, not cheap, but still probably more bang per $ compared to any other alternative.

If that's not the kind of modification you're looking for, you might re-gear your axles to compensate for the change in tire size. This is probably the most effective way to bring the level pep back to what you're used to.

I agree with you. The 4.0 is a common engine here and mostly used by offroaders who look for manual tranny on the lc200.

Alot of them do chip or tune there cars as it is relatively cheap here. Around 250$ for dyno tune and up to 1,000 $ usd for unichip. They argue that they get 30+ hp and even better torque gains but i doubt that it acheivable.
