Upper Tailgate questions

Hey guys,

We have A LC BJ60 '84 and we need to replace the upper tail gate, mainly because of the rust on it.

We're looking for a replacement and we encountered one for 300$ in Montreal, without the lock and without the wiper. I was wondering if that made sense, and if by any chance any of you would know of where I could find more (I live in Montreal, Canada).

The mechanic says for 50$ he can install it, but if he encounters problems with the wires (?!), it could reach 150$.

The truck is red, and the door we found is gray.

We were wondering if having everything done and changed for the upper tail gate, window included, wiper, locks + installation if that is a good deal or not.

On the fact that you are based in Montreal, and that the hatch is rust free, it's a good price (consider shipping fees from a non-rust belt area).

Installation is pretty straight forward, but you will have to rewire for the dome light and wiper motor. If I remember correctly, they both use a plug, so you can unplug and replug easily.

BTW, did you buy the LC from Matthieu?

Yes we did buy from Matthieu, really a nice guy ...!!!!

We were planning on doing the same kind of trip, and finding the good car for our trip, we found his BJ60 for sale that did exactly what we were looking for!

Departure planned on august 2013, now we have to make some repairs and improvments!

I'm kinda new to all this, my GF and I are taking his baby and we don't know much about mechanic, but we're looking foward learning!...

That's why I'm worried about simple things such as wipers / wires / locks...

That's me before buying my LC 1 1/2 years ago. If you don't have them, find the Factory Service Manuals, they are real bibles.

I changed my rear wiper motor last year and was really easy. I also forgot about the windshield washer liquid hose.

If you have a specific question, let me know and I can also give you help, since we are not that far away!

Looking for Upper Tail Gate BJ60 '84

It seems like the guy sold the upper tail gate!!! Oh well, we'll need to find another one...

anybody would have contacts for an upper tail gate LC BJ60 '84 ? red would be awesome, although I think it would be hard to find!

If I'm not mistaken, any 60 or 62 upper tailgate will fit. Check the For Sale - Parts section, maybe you'll be lucky.

Is there any difference between the FJ and the BJ... as for the 60 and 62?

Does the year impact also? Let's say I find a FJ60 '88, for example, would it fit?

As for the upper tailgate, I pretty sure it's the same or at least will fit. Did you try Mr. Toy on the south shore, maybe he will have one. Or check on Kijiji/Craiglist for someone parting out a truck, but you may need to be patient since every tailgate have rust issue!
