So, been working on separating parts into sell vs send to J for the final build.

For the first few+ years, I bought a lot of OEM parts, sometimes multiple of the same part(s), thinking I was going to do a full OEM restore. My build changed, quickly became a full restomod build, and my parts stash has silently sat waiting to be used=) It's a collection of New OEM, NOS OEM, New Other (eg, SOR, Man-A-Fre, etc.), Used OEM, Used other (ARB, Milford, etc.), and Custom Fab. The parts list is crazy long and I'm close to completing it down to the last nut & bolt (including pictures of every single mf'n part). Parts list will be finalized this weekend - currently at 2 full pages, single spaced individual entries.

Raffle?

As I was cataloging everything and getting ready to list them on eBay, had an idea that might benefit both the MUD community and me - a parts raffle. Initially thought of breaking it into sections (eg, mechanical, electrical, etc.) but to be honest, way too many moving pieces in my already hectic life. So, my thought is this:

One raffle to rule them all!

$50 per raffle ticket. 100 tickets minimum, 200 tickets maximum. If tickets sold =/> 150, free shipping. If tickets sold =/,125-149, winner splits shipping with me. If tickets sold =/<124-100, winner pays shipping. If tickets sold <100, raffle cancelled, tickets fully refunded. PayPal will be used and funds will not be touched until a winner is picked.

Raffle dynamics? Couple of scenarios to ponder. If the raffle proceeds after voting, here are the choices (the official drawing will be FB live-streamed):

1) Ping-pong ball race: Preface: I live on a river. I handprint each number on a single ping-pong ball x the number of raffle tickets sold. Starting point will be the river at the most NE part of the property. End point will be the first ping-pong ball to cross under the Lee Road bridge (20 mins by kayak). It's a clear water river, maybe 25 meters at the widest, slow to moderate current, plenty of obstacles, plenty of curves. How will it be live-streamed? I'll have the ping-pong balls in a large tub and will have a MUD member(s) empty the tub mid river. I'll kayak with the iPhone attached to my helmet, staying +/- 5-10 meters in front of the ping-pong balls until one crosses under the bridge. The MUD member(s) will be at the finish line to verify the winner as well.

2) Drawing at Trail-Tailor: Live-streamed. Traditional raffle ticket stubs. Stubs will be put in an appropriately sized container and thoroughly mixed. While live-streaming, J will pull one ticket, the winning ticket. Why J? Aside from being my builder, I consider J a friend and have the utmost respect for him & his family. J is also a well-known MUD vendor, trustworthy unbiased (not equal to un-opinionated, lol) and no nonsense.

Let the voting begin!

Edit: not sure if you were looking for suggestion or had already made up your mind on execution.

I would list the parts.

Then offer a 2-4 week period for people to buy tickets at whatever the ticket price was.

Raffle is on x date.

Each item is raffled as a ticket pulled. Way more engaging for the crowd, more chance for people to win/more likely they will buy tickets.

This is the approach that most of the Cruiser events have vendor supported raffles. Vendors donate products to the raffle. Event sells tickets, then makes a festive show out of the raffle. They get partially funded for next years event.

I think that might make people want to open the wallets and buy some tickets. People at the events normally get a little raucous with fistfuls of tickets after they have a couple adult beverages.

Like the creativity here.

Sweet idea! I’ll swing by and help out.

Crazy raffle to pass along parts, sounds like typical Shane.

My $0.02 is that ping pong balls in a river is a bad idea, creative, but bad. Our rivers have enough human trash in them and no matter how hard you try to retrieve all the balls you will miss some.

I'm watching and interested and will probably buy a ticket.

@NookShneer - Having a raffle per part would be impossible. At the current tally, I think I have over a 100 NEW OEM NOS parts alone: 40 w/s & seals, 36 mechanical parts, 13 electrical parts, 19 body parts, 4 body parts, 13 headlight washer parts, 8 steering parts, 16 chrome trim parts and well over 300 nuts, bolts, washers, screws, harness straps, cushions, pads, grommets, etc. I'll exemplify with a few sections below.

Agree on everything else (eg, date, draw, etc.) and like the idea of having festivities. Personally, I quit drinking alcohol back in the 90's but I'll damn sure fly out to one of you guys' states that have decriminalized mushrooms and partake in some mind-bending shroom tea=) Which, btw, would make watching the ping-pong balls float down the river pretty friggin awesome!

And thank you for the thoughtful/constructive feedback, much appreciated.

Edit - taking your idea of listing individual parts. . .maybe hold raffles for the separate categories, hmm. . .

@Godwin - 100% correct. Stewardship of our planet should be a priority for all of us. Aside from walking the river to pickup litter/debris weekly, we run conservation oriented around the property.

There are a few choices that are 100% biodegradable and safe for the environment. Also, I'm expecting about a 90%+ recovery rate to boot!

Maybe if this happens and the river run is the venue of choice, and if you happen to be in the area. . .you can be our official MUD overwatch?

Appreciate the input & feedback. . .

@BurntToast - life's short, insanity helps to make the best of it while you're here=)

@kody472 - just let me know before you head over and I'll deactivate the ED-209's, brahahahahahahaha, a little Robocop trivia! River's crystal clear, too.

A lot of states have restrictions on raffles. You better check your state laws.

I'd get a ticket

No psilocybin legal here but I know where the cow dung is

Excellent point! Louisiana guidelines state I can run a raffle if the individual prize is worth </= $250. . .would be tricky for some of the items.

Sweepstakes are 100% legal in all 50 states. . .but this would mean I'd have to get a mgt company involved (eg, TapKat.com). Viable and boring but viable nonetheless.

In a non-snowflake world, I'd run the raffle without hesitation. But ass-hurt individuals make life difficult for all of us.

So. . .looks like it will be a sweepstake of some sort.

Man, the IRS sure makes having a little fun almost impossible.

The winner(s) would need to claim the value of his/her prize, taxed at 10-24% (IRS) + whatever his/her state tax rate is for his/her respective income.

As the sponsor, I would also need to claim the total amount raised and pay between 25-37% to the IRS, plus my state taxes.

Since the IRS is one of the few agencies I go out of my way not to piss off, I don't see a way to do this LEGALLY.

Which sucks very large goat balls for everyone. . .

Ebay it is, damn it!

@NookShneer - any ideas before I start mass listing parts on ebay?

Shane

@sschruff thats a major bummer. Now that you’ve got people’s attention you might want to post a price list here. Selling to Mud folks seems way easier than dealing with eBay yahoos … and fees.

@NookShneer - wondered the same thing. Contacted one of my buddies who is a corporate CPA and also sits on a DAV board (NPO). Basically exactly what you stated, NPO status or just fly under the radar. For this type of scenario, going stealth is literally impossible. . .only takes one butthurt snowflake to start a fubar scenario of which I want no part of. So, contacted a local DAV NPO. Scenario is possible but at a significant price. 50% of all funds raised goes to the NPO (good); my 50% has to be reported to both the IRS/state. The NPO does a raffle, which puts me in the gambling related winnings tax bracket, so minus a minimum 24%. And I'm pretty sure they don't include a free KY kit for the mandatory bend over and take it=)

@CruiserTrash - thanks and will do. I think it's a tradeoff, personally. Gouged with fees via eBay or price bitching with a large percentage of MUD comments.

But I tend to thrive in conflict oriented environments, so I'm good either way, lol.

735+ parts total. Last time I attached a word doc but someone complained. . .really!
