How will the glow screen operate with the temp sensor disconnected? Will it run off of a time relay during the key on ignition process? Dose a 13b T also have glow plugs? I am going to put on a lower rad hose heat blanket this weekend and I don't want it to effect the operation of the glow screen. Is there a particular manual that would have general info on these type of questions?

1) Someone has suggested doing this before (I forget who) to fool the glow screen timer into thinking it's very cold outside and forcing it to cycle its full glow every time you turn the ignition.

2) No, your 13B-T doesn't have any glow plugs. It has a platinum mesh glow screen on the intake manifold.

3) You should pick yourself up a set of factory service manuals from Toyota (FSM). Outfits like G&S Cruiser Parts sell them...and I'm sure others also. You need the B series engine manual, as well as the 60 and 70 series chassis and body manual (the manual covers both wagons and 70 series). They're not that expensive...

I've been operating my BJ74 with that temp sensor unplugged for about a year now, because otherwise the lower rad heater tells the sensor the engine is warm enough, and the glowscreen won't energize. The glowscreen only comes on if the key is paused in the ON position on start-up, not every time you turn on the ignition.

Thanks for saving me all that typing.

"With the key in the ON position the glowscreen will only stay on for the maximum timer cycle assuming the timer module is working correctly."

Starting the engine also shuts it down. You turn the key to the ON position, wait whatever you think is an appropriate length of time, then fire it up. Works fine anytime of the year.

So, am I right to assume this is the same for a 12HT? I was going to put in a switch so I could operate the glowscreen manually but disconnecting the sensor is even simpler. I am putting a lower rad hose heater in today and hadn't even thought about that fooling the sensor. So with the sensor disconnected the screen will stay on as long as the key is in the on position( up to the max 14 secs) correct?

thanks Todd

i found this industrial NC momentary switch it is the size i wanted, but a little more money.
