I have the Ultra gauge EM plus on my 03 Tacoma and love it, so I was going to order one for my 1999 LC that I just bought. Will the MX read trans temps on the 99? Does anyone know if I'll have to do some custom programming or is it pre loaded? If anyone has the MX and can let me know, I'd appreciate it!

OK, I've searched but haven't found an answer to this question...For anyone that has a MX on a 99 or similar year LC what pre-programmed profile did you order. The order form for the MX is asking to choose one, but none are 9141 protocol. Would you just choose the 2nd gen Prius( which is CAN) or another one. I emailed Ultra-gauge and there response was "as per the MX product page and FAQ, the 9141 protocol does not support access to Manufacturer parameters/gauges." But some have said that they have been able to program values in the MX to get the auto trans temp. If I am wrong please let me know!!! I cancelled the order for the EM Plus and am planning to get the MX if I can solve these questions. If there are any threads about this please point me that way! Thanks in advance!

Hey man, did you find an answer to this? In the same boat and would prefer the UG to the SG.
Thanks

I think if I remember correctly, I went with the EM Plus and it has been doing great! Good luck! Its a great product!

I'll probably just go with that then. I can't seem to clarify whether trans temp can be programmed and I'm also not sure which "preprogrammed profile" I would need to order anyway.

Appreciate the response!

Two Ultragages in the family have died...they cannot handle a hot car....

Scangauge is the way to go

My Ultra-Gauge is over 5yrs old, it says right in the owners manual not to leave it in direct sunlight, and you live on the surface of the sun sooo....

On hot days I park with the windshield not facing the sun and my UG does just fine. If I forget the only problem I have is a few dropped pixels until it cools off.

Just a consideration, they cannot handle the phx in car temps (even not in direct sunlight) so, if you live somewhere hot, they are unfortunately not an option. My issue is that I have used other products with screens, like an Edge tuner, that have been in direct sunlight on the A pillar for about 10 years now with zero issues.

Not really an issue for me. I live in MA, so it's only a couple months or so that get above 90*F, in which case I'd just plop it in the shade/center console.

Would really love input on the MX as to if someone has successfully programmed trans temp to it for our trucks, and which "preprogram profile" I would have to order. Seems like it's hidden information. I can live without trans temp I guess, I don't tow or anything so.

Thanks, UltraGauge... Figured if I was concise and clear enough I'd get a better response. Guess I'm going with the EM Plus and dealing with Trans Temp in another way. I really don't wanna order the MX unless I know for a fact that I can use it normally, even if the code for trans temp doesn't work.

What's the price difference? Is it significant? Even if it cannot read trans temp are there other features it has over the other model?
Mine is old, like really old. Still works great but it is dropping pixels and I think I'm going to buy a new one soon.
Trans temp would be nice but whatever. There is a warning light on the dash...
My work van shows trans temp, it was fun to watch for like the first week but over a year later I could care less.

So I guess what I'm saying is, if the price difference is negligible why not buy the MX version and see what happens?

Price is $90 as opposed to the $80 for the EM. It's just a matter of knowing which "preprogrammed profile" I need to order, which they didn't really answer for me. It's bizarre.
The MX allows you to do the Manufacturer Gauges, that's it's only extra feature. The EM has like three others (copy/pasted from website):

When I set mine up if asked me which program to run, the manual said "GM uses X, Ford uses Y...etc." but if you tried to use the wrong profile it would just say error and you tried again.
I have used mine in my 1997 Land Rover, 1998 Corolla, mothers 2008 Ford Escape, wife's 2006 Kia Sedona and now my 2004 Land Cruiser.
I have changed nothing, plugged it in, turned the ignition on, it searched for the program, then BAM!! it worked flawlessly. Only the initial set up did I have to choose a program to run and it has worked for everything I plug it into so far.
When I buy a new one I think I'll put this one in my work van.

I think if I order the MX to mess around with, I'll get one with the 200 Series CAN PreProgrammed Parameter, just in case it doesn't work out to my liking and I can resell it to someone here. Hopefully I can take one for the team here and figure it out even with my lack of knowledge on OBD2 lol
