I bought a 78 axle for the 55 when I thought I needed disc brakes. Got it torn apart and one of the faces on the hub looks like it was damaged and won’t allow it to turn. I’m thinking of filling down each surface but looking for suggestions. All these parts, minus hubs, are for sale if anyone needs anything

They come a part very easy. Soak them paint them and you should be good to go.
 
Time for a permanent air filter solution for Moonshine. Started with a Ferd 6.0 air filter cartridge, because if it can support 6.0L displacement at a minimum of 325HP, it's perfect for a little 3.9L that's striving for that much power :steer:

Filter element held in place with a custom strap clamp that's got a mount to the firewall seam, then another down to a bolt on the inner fender. The plastic intake horn that would clip on to the element on the turbo side is facing the wrong direction, and plastic (ew, gross), so I'm working on fabricating a new one out of sheetmetal.

Spent about 4 hours last night working on this piece. This is a formed sheetmetal ring that incorporates inner and outer lips to index on, and seal, the air filter outlet. This will serve as a base to make the intake horn out of. The heat discoloration from welding make it ugly, but it'll get polished up for finished pics before being painted:

Current idea, split a section of 3" exhaust pipe and flare it out to form a horn, since I don't have body hammers and sand bags to form this out of flat sheet. I'm digging it so far! Will be finished by Thursday for sure, hoping to get it wrapped up tonight for the monthly meeting tomorrow:

Probably pretty tough to visualize what I was doing based on the post yesterday, but these should help. Got the majority of the fabrication done on the turbo side yesterday. Have to connect this to the turbo boot with some pipe, finish weld, grind, polish up and then paint. Should be more clear what that ring is for now.

Won't be ready for the monthly meeting tonight due to late work yesterday, but we'll surely be ready for the weekend.

Just thought I'd pick ya'lls brains here. I am about to lift the 80 and need to decide on caster correction bushings or plates. My bushing are 24yrs old and need replacing as it sits so I thought bushings might be a good way to kill two birds and one stone.
 
Were treys springs a j spring?

Id go plates either way likely. If you get bushings get the 3* instead of 2. More castor is better up to the point the drag link hits your control arms. Can pick up some new oem bushing foe the plates but it does add to the overall cost. Then theres is slee vs landtank style. Ricks have merit but Im happy with my slees with no vibes.
 
I'm with Jason. If I even own a 80 again and lift it then will run plates.
 
OME850J Springs up front
OME863X Springs in the rear
Manafre 30mm spacers up front
OME 60018 (I think) longer shocks up front)
OME shocks in rear (not sure of #)

These were the lift specs. Trey had land tank plates for a 2.5" lift.

Sounds like plates are the way to go, I was looking at bushings as cheaper but they sounds ill received.
 
850J plus trim packers? Wow. That's gonna be tall. Got a heavy bumper and winch?
I do have a bumper and a winch but it is a lightweight tube bumper and a fairly heavy Ramsey 9K.
 
As Jason said, spacers on top of J's will be lift overkill.

Plates are solid advice. I'm going to run bushings on my 850J/863 lift and see how it goes. If I don't like them, I'll do plates. I have a spare set of stock arms with stock bushings so going to plates will be a simple arm swap (no pressing out bushings).
